Teachers and members of the PTA of Kapalembe Primary School

what we're doing now

Encouraged by the success over the last four years, BZT and Hodi have decided to replicate the Kalwa programme (which will continue in the existing communities) in the five contiguous communities of Nshinso, Shaibila, Chinonya, Chipumfi and Kapalembe, click here for map, to enable 15,000 more rural Zambians to have better life chances.

There is some serious poverty in these new communities and there is a desperate need to:

• improve education opportunity by building teachers’ houses so that qualified staff are available to teach, by renovating and building classrooms and by constructing girls’ dormitories and providing bursaries.
• increase income generation and food security by diversifying agricultural production to other higher value crops, in particular bananas
• raise awareness of HIV and AIDS, encourage prevention and how to be positive about living with HIV and AIDS.
• provide micro-credit loans and small business training for women

The contrast of the life opportunities between these five communities where BZT is now starting to work with what has been achieved over the last four years is stark. Please help.
