Headmistress of Mulungwe primary school with PTA chairman testing new water pump funded by BZT

what bzt has done

For the last four years BZT has been working in three communities (Chibanga, Mulungwe and Katula) in the Kalwa area, see maps, making a difference to the lives of over 7,500 people by:

• enabling three schools to radically improve their facilities including building the first girls’ dormitory in a Government primary school in Zambia. Teachers’ houses have been constructed which unlock government funding for a qualified teacher and bursaries have been provided.
• improving food and income security by supporting farmers to diversify crops into growing bananas for the first time which is a crop 100 times the value per acre of maize, which can be fed by ground water and is of high nutritional value.
• addressing the scourge of HIV and AIDS by training local volunteers, and providing them with bicycles as community based councilors, peer educators and care givers reaching over 25,000 people.
• supporting the creation and training of community groups to provide local leadership.
